After three years in Berlin, this is the first time I have seen this much snow. Like many Berliners who know the city’s weird and wonderful moods, both in weather and otherwise, we couldn’t be happier. Usually, we get just a few scattered days of yellow snow, but this year arrived white and stayed, covering Christmas and New Year in a way that felt truly special.
That also means it’s the perfect means to go to the Berlin public parks and enjoy sledging, skating and playing Ice hockey. The parks have been lively with kids to teenagers, to adults indulging in the fun activities or just watching others have a crazy time. For me, it was quite a sight, apart from seeing random Snowmen now and then.
The temperature may be in minus, but that hasn’t stopped the Berliners from going for a jog, mind you, the footpaths are quite icy and slippery. But I guess, people from European regions are built differently, for them, Health comes first – A mere Berlin weather and its shenanigans can’t do anything to stop them from doing what’s beneficial for them.
Everybody is fully covered from head to toe with full big winter jackets, leather boots, hand gloves, a beanie and red/pink cheeks to boot. Although people did face problems in southern Berlin due to an Electricity outage, that’s fixed now. I hope this new year, everyone gets their deepest heart’s wishes fulfilled, including me.
Winter snow has been pretty scenic to watch, with the sun barely being in sight, and the darkness engulfing the city with the cold is quite chilling. So, enjoy the weather, stay warm and be safe.
Happy Winters!!!
