What Are We Without Our Dreams?

What Are We Without Our Dreams?

Life starts with aspirations and dreams to be someone, but along the way, we lose the oomph that separates us from others. The drive that strives for us to be better and faster than ever gets in touch with reality and becomes small, unnoticeable and almost robotic. Everybody loses their charm in the long run with less to zero motivation and inspiration for what was.

What happens to those who have no dreams anymore? Do people like that are dead inside while being a walking, talking and laughing zombie? Are these people not considered worth celebrating with since they have long seen the actual realities of the harsh world and what it does to the naive dreams they once had?

Some days we just feel like a Ghost in the Shell doing the bare minimum to survive the life given to us. Why? Because it’s the right thing to do. But Why? That’s the way it’s been happening since humans cracked the code to survive with dignity and class while being part of the society that feeds their ego.

The question I want to ask is: What are we without dreams? Are dreams essential for survival, or to say it bluntly, Are the dreams survive only of the fittest?

Dreams are imbibed into a baby since it is born, through the means of stories, poems, songs, movies and more. It’s like a tool given to the baby to start thinking for itself since its inception. It’s like they are trained to be someone who can respected and valued in society.

  • We are an empty entity without dreams or aspirations that’s what the society would tell you. But to me, dreams are a parameter to judge or measure your abilities/ skills to know whether you are worth the standards of the world we live in. A person without a dream would be a soulless or motivationless person who cannot be swayed or bought with money or the pleasures of the world.

So, a society would not benefit from such a person and thus, she would be deemed unworthy to even function in the selfish circle of the world where everything is a profit/ loss statement and this person would turn out to be the Break-Even point or an anomaly to all.
  • Dreams are essential for survival since they measure your desperation to do almost anything to achieve your desired outcome.

They are very crucial to function in a world divided by borders but united by unsatiable greed to be the best while trampling on the dreams of the little insignificant people. Dreams make you stand out among a crowd while also grouping you into one as well.
  • People who are born into a privileged family tend to have all their dreams fulfilled, more like, they are fulfilling the dreams of their ancestors and living like vessels to achieve whatever is expected from them. They have hobbies rather than dreams, which could be a synonym for them.
  • They say you will achieve your dreams if you keep at it and don’t give up. But how much is much? How much determination or skills does one need to have to achieve their dreams? The survival of the fittest is the oldest saying in the world, but how do you survive till the end?

Surely, this all cannot be achieved through sheer hard work and skills, but with bad deeds and lots of good luck. With the ability to grasp and change yourself in the need of the hour with no moral compass to guide oneself, dreams can be accomplished.

When you’ve lived and learned the ins and outs of the world, you begin to see the naïveté in people’s dreams. Yet, despite that wisdom, a part of you still hopes they reach those dreams — ideally, with fewer struggles and less pain than you endured.

That’s why, my friends, the old saying “Ignorance is bliss” can truly be your secret weapon. Sometimes, not knowing too much is exactly what keeps us going.

  1. This heartfelt piece captures the quiet tragedy of losing one’s dreams in the grind of reality. It speaks to the pain of becoming numb, just going through the motions while the fire inside fades. The author mourns how society labels the dreamless as unworthy, yet still clings to hope for those who dare to dream. It reminds us that even the smallest spark of hope can make us feel alive. In a world that often rewards conformity, holding on to our dreams becomes an act of silent rebellion.
